Dr. Oliver M. ThompsonYour instructor for these Administration of Justice classes is Dr. Oliver Maurice Thompson.

Dr. Thompson was born in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1942 and matriculated through the segregated school system to graduation in 1960.

Dr. Thompson began his career in law enforcement in 1965 after serving over four years in the United States Air Force.  His initial career choice was to be a Baptist minister but went into the military after a disagreement with his Great Aunt. 

Dr. Thompson's initial law enforcement employment was with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.  He remained in their employment from September, 1965 through February, 1992.  He worked in every sworn position from Deputy Sheriff through Chief Deputy.  He was a station commander in Lake Elsinore, California.  His last two positions were command positions overseeing Patrol Operations and Corrections.

Dr. Thompson was appointed Chief of Police, Inglewood, CA in March, 1992.  He remained in that position into retirement in  March, 1997.

Dr. Thompson, in retirement, was the Security Manager, Crenshaw Christian Center, Los Angeles, CA.

In 1998, Dr. Thompson was invited to apply for a faculty position, full time, tenure track, @ Riverside Community College, City campus.

Dr. Thompson has worked as a part time instructor @ Riverside Community College since 1968, primarily in the vocational training area of law enforcement.   Other institutions of higher learning, in an academic sense, where Dr. Thompson has instructed have been University of California, Los Angeles, and Riverside, and California State University, Los Angeles and San Bernardino.

Dr. Thompson's educational pursuit began in September, 1960 at Southwestern College, Winfield KS.  After his military stint, Dr. Thompson began to climb the educational ladder, in earnest, @ Riverside Community College in September, 1965.  He attained his Associate of Arts degree in 1967.

In rapid succession, Dr. Thompson completed his Bachelors degree in Police Administration in March 1970 at California State University, Los Angeles. 

Graduate studies were completed and culminated with the Masters degree in Public Administration in 1973 and his Ph.D in Public Administration, labor management relations specialization in 1979, dissertation finally completed in 1988.

Dr. Thompson's hobbies are computers and performance cars.
